Generation Rwanda Trainers

Launched in July 2008, Indego Africa’s award-winning internship program with Generation Rwanda (formerly known as Orphans of Rwanda, Inc.), an international NGO funding university educations for high-performing students in Rwanda, continues to set a new standard for how nonprofits can collaborate.

Under the supervision of Indego Africa’s staff, fourteen of Rwanda’s top university students teach Indego Africa’s Hand Up training programs.  This alliance benefits all parties involved and allows Indego Africa to run its training programs frugally yet efficiently – just $50 per month covers one intern’s expenses! Generation Rwanda students hail from Rwanda’s School of Finance & Banking, the Kigali Institute of Technology, and the Kigali Institute of Education.

Mentoring & Leadership

With an intimate series of formal and informal mentoring, training, and evaluation initiatives, Indego Africa’s Generation Rwanda internship program prepares Rwandan university students to enter the local workforce with high level communication and organizational skills.

Indego Africa’s “Training of the Trainers” program – which includes weekly discussion groups and monthly in-depth training sessions on participatory training techniques, curriculum development, activity planning and communications –  encourage the active engagement of interns in every aspect of the program.

The internship program also serves as a feeder into paid employment with Indego Africa. Many interns currently consult on a number of projects, including cooperative management assessment, supply chain enhancement, and extra English literacy training for Indego Africa's artisan partners.
